snowed in

alright, so we’re snowed in, although not in the true sense… we’re lucky to have four wheel drive cars, and if we needed to go out and about, we could… but we’re in Seattle, so nearly everything shuts down with even a dusting.  So I’m using this snow day to get caught up on   this blog, and post about the holidays, recent projects, etc.  Don’t you love how peaceful our back yard looks?

Stay tuned, and keep warm and cozy, friends!

and the 2012 pantone color is….

Tangerine tango

I love all things orange, and while I may be in a green/blue/yellow/gray phase, I will certainly embrace the reddish-orange hue that is “tangerine tango”!

hmm, maybe it can make a debut in our bathroom?

… or a statement piece in the living room?

What do you think?  Love it? hate it? or are you thinking, “who the heck cares about pantone?”

curtain fever

wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve said much on here, but there’s been lots going on, that’s for sure.  There have been trips to two sets of grandparents, parties to plan and parties to attend, thanksgiving at our house, and so on and so on.  but between all the busy-ness, there has been curtain making.  lots and lots of curtain making.  I took a break from quilting and dove into the world of home decor fabric.  so now I can say I’ve made black-out curtains, lined curtains, curtains with grommets, curtains with tie-backs, and curtains with ruffles!  (whew!) alright shall I continue?  …curtains for itty bitty windows, and floor-to-ceiling panels… curtains for me, curtains for my babies, curtains for family…  and now? well, i’m exhausted.  and I don’t want to make curtains again for awhile.  but, I’ll post some pictures soon :-{)

coffee table fever

yes, very exciting* things happening are around here.  Anyway, in a nutshell, my mind seems to wander to the subject of “new coffee table” on a daily basis.  We need something different… that fits in with the feel of the rest of the house (think retro/ 60’s).  But here’s the main reason: our current coffee table (seen in this photo)contributed to this injury (eye) a while back, and frankly, I just don’t want another black mark on my record as “bad mom who owns dangerous furniture/household items”

That being said, here are some that I like.  Some cheap, some expensive, some too dark or too light.. but all good jumping off points.  My only requirements are 1) sturdy and 2) minimal sharp corners/death traps.  Please feel free to weigh in here because I can’t seem to make up my mind!  Or perhaps I haven’t found the right one!?

VEJMON Coffee table, black-brown Diameter: 35 3/8 " Height: 18 1/2 " Diameter: 90 cm Height: 47 cm

ikea - not oval and kind of dark

Crate & Barrel $799 - too expensive

pretty, not very practical

IKEA STOCKHOLM Coffee table, golden brown Length: 66 7/8 " Width: 23 5/8 " Height: 17 3/4 " Length: 170 cm Width: 60 cm Height: 45 cm

Ikea - fun 60's feel... but flimsy?

Seriously people, I need some direction.  And I’d like to move on to bigger and better things than “coffee table fever.”

*and by exciting, I mean not really =)

getting caught up

There’s been a multitude of events going on around here lately, and I hope to get caught up on things soon. Mostly, we’ve been tackling a lot of these…

let’s just say this already sleep-deprived mama of 2 has had her hands full this past month moving, unpacking, organizing, hosting out of town guests, and road tripping to the san juan’s to be a bridesmaid in one of my best friend’s wedding…. all while doing my best to spend time with my hh (handsome hubby) and keep a toddler and newborn alive and well… whew.  I need a nap.  no seriously, I do.

So anyway, in our *leisure time* we’ve been exploring our new little town and is it fabulous.  Did I mention we are 10 minutes away from the sound?

Yikes, that boy needs a haircut!

>Getting ready

>I think its adorable that Noah is wearing his noise reduction headphones while steam cleaning the carpets… even more importantly is the fact that our carpets are getting cleaned. I have the best husband ever. Now off to a movie while everything dries!

There are only 8 more days until Ethan’s due date, although we went to the doctor today and she pretty much said, well, it could be tomorrow, or it could be 2 weeks from now… and that’s fine with me. We’re ready whenever he is ready 🙂 In the meantime, it’s just cleaning, getting together with friends, and walking as much as possible.

>Craft time!

>Seeing that I wasn’t thrilled with how my last quilt came together, I decided to put the sewing machine and fabric away for awhile (not to mention that it helps our dining room table stay clean). I’ve been wanting to make something to put on the wall for Ethan, so I decided to make this cute little elephant.

I was quite happy with how it turned out, but there were two problems: 1) I still had an extra wood board and lots of paper, and 2) I felt like I could have done something a little more challenging because the idea and even the template was completely stolen from Martha Stewart online…. So, I decided to make another one, this time creating my own design. It was a little tricky, but completely worth it. I hope he’ll like it!

>Really Behind!

>There has been so much going on during the past month, and yet I’ve had no time to update on here! I’m thinking that this will all change in the next few days for two main reasons:

1) We’ve been moving furniture around to make space for baby Ethan’s arrival. Our computer is now in our bedroom and that is also where our air conditioner currently is. Needless to say I’ve been spending less time in our main living area and much more time in the bedroom. Maybe that will prompt me to blog/download all of the photos from our past 3 or 4 major vacations and events.

2) I have been without a car for the last 6 days! Breaking down out of town on one of the hottest days of the year was NOT a fun ordeal. I was even stuck over in the south sound area (Olympia/Shelton) for 3 of those days. Side note: I was staying with my in-laws, so they rescued me from a gas station on 101 and made life much more bearable even though I really just wanted to be home! Now that I am home, I’ve gotten used to life without a car (it’s still in repair shop limbo)… and while I’m frustrated with the dealership and their shenanigans, I don’t really mind being carless because I’ve been getting so much done around here!

>Spring is actually here!

> I think I made the most of our beautiful weather yesterday:

1) I spent a few hours at Cafe Ladro reading. Right now I am reading From Beirut to Jerusalem, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, and studying 1 Peter.
2) I bought some spring plants and flowers. This year I only bought plants good for full sun to go on our balcony because almost every year we have flowers and leaves get scorched because it gets so hot up there!
3) I planted those plants, got rid of dead plants, took inventory of the remaining pots and yay, time to go buy more plants today! It was so nice to be working outside. Here is the finished

Oregano and Lavender:

A bigger pot for our Japanese Maple and some colorful flowers :

4) I ate lunch outside on the balcony, soaking up some sun. Cut up the remaining strawberries in our fridge to share with Noah, delicious!
5) Took an hour nap… so nice!
6) Got up and met two friends at Greenlake. Of course it was packed! One friend brought her mom’s cute beagle and we walked all the way around. I’m not having many issues with pregnancy related fatigue or discomfort as of yet when I work out. The other girls are 24 and 28 weeks pregnant, and they did great!
7) Finished off the day with a late dinner at Tutta Bella. Pretty good although the pizza wasn’t as good as it has been in the past and I was freezing the whole time!
8) Late night organizing session, condensing stuff in our hall closet while watching lame shows on demand. I love organizing!
